Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio — Capital University defeated Marietta College by the score of 6-3 Wednesday (March 30) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action. The loss drops Marietta to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. Capital improves to 7-1 on the season and 1-1 in the OAC.
The Comets won two of the three doubles matches for an early 2-1 lead. The team of Alex Rowley and Thomas Secrist defeated
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School) and
David Frazier (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) at No. 3 by the score of 8-1.
The Pioneers evened the match with a win at No. 2 when
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta) bested Jackson Havel and Colin Welch, 8-6. In the top doubles match, Spencer Surles and Brady Wink held off
Evan Barker (Washington, W.Va./Parkersburg South) and
Elijah Kuhl (Marietta, Ohio/Wood County Christian (W.Va.)), 8-4.
Capital got two quick wins at Nos. 5 and6 singles for a 4-1 lead. At No. 5, Havel downed Frazier, 6-0 and 6-1, while Wink topped Fazah at No. 6, 6-1 and 6-0.
Hall bested Welch at No. 4, 6-4 and 6-3, to keep Marietta's hopes alive. But Surles secured the team victory for the Comets with a three-set win at No. 2. Kuhl won the first set 6-3 before Surles won the second, 6-3, and then won the third set 10-5 for the victory.
At No. 1, Secrist defeated Perez, 6-2 and 6-2. Barker accounted for Marietta's third point with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Jesse Stevens.
Marietta plays at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday (April 1) at 1:00 p.m.
