Track hosts Don Frail Invitational

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College hosted its annual Don Frail Invitational Track Meet Saturday (March 19) morning. The Pioneer women won the team title, while the men finished second.

Marietta's women scored 147 team points for the victory. Ursuline was second with 121 points with Muskingum (104), Thiel (42) and Washington and Jefferson (29) rounding out the field.

The Pioneers won four individual events. Ashton Carroll (Corning, Ohio/New Lexington) won the pole vault, Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) won the shot put and hammer throw, while Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) won the discus. Carroll also placed second in the 200-meter run with a time of 30.61 seconds.

Marietta dominated the field events. Carroll (2.70m) and Jordan Hartle (New Brighton, Pa./Freedom Area) (2.45m) were first and second in the pole vault. Priest and Huffman claimed the top two places in the shot, discus and hammer. Priest won the shot (11.53m) and hammer (44.14m) and was second in the discus (35.05m). She also placed sixth in the javelin (23.37m). Huffman won the discus (38.38m) and placed second in the shot (11.19m) and hammer (43.25m). She also placed fifth in the javelin (24.32m).

Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) had a pair of second place finishes in the long jump (4.67m) and the triple jump (9.99m). Cali Barnes-Pierotti (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy) scored in three events including a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (9.12m), sixth in the high jump (1.40m) and seventh in the long jump (4.17m). She also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.44 seconds.

Alexis Shreckengost scored in three events with a fifth place showing in the hammer (22.66m), seventh place in the discus (21.37m) and eighth place in the javelin (20.64m). Savannah Flusche (Blacklick, Ohio/) placed third in the discus (32.98m) and fourth in the hammer (32.03m), while Kaitlin Kobuszewski (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) placed third in the javelin (29.98m).

Ciara Space () placed second in the 5,000-meter run finishing in 19:37.26.  Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) was third in the 200m dash (30.94) and fourth in the 100m dash (14.20).

Three Pioneers scored in the 1,500-meter run. Mackenzie Moran (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) was fifth with a time of 5:39.13, followed by Kaitlyn Gough (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) (5:42.27) and Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) (5:42.77).

Muskingum won the men's team title with 185 points. Marietta took second with 94 points with Washington and Jefferson (90) and Thiel (69) rounding out the field.

Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) and Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) each won two events for the Pioneers. Kieffer won the 200m dash (24.00) and the 400m dash (51.97). Painter took top honors in the triple jump (12.80m) and javelin (46.28m). Painter also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.21) and fifth in the long jump (5.99m).

Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) scored in three events including third place in the hammer (39.60m), fourth in the javelin (35.36m) and sixth in the discus (33.17m). Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) had a pair of fourth-place finishes in the shot (11.71m) and hammer (38.00m) and placed fifth in the javelin (32.00m).

Wade Chuich (Marietta, Ohio/John Glenn) placed sixth in the javelin (15.78m) and eighth in the hammer (27.02m), while Kenneth Amos (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel) was third in the javelin (27.10m).

Nathan Ritchie (Fleming, Ohio/Warren Local) (18:07.63) and Jack Hehr (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley) (19:19.06) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run.

Marietta is back in action at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open on Saturday (March 26).
