Men’s Lacrosse tumbles to Pfeiffer on the road

Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team dropped a match on the road to Pfeiffer University, 18-8 on Friday (March 11) afternoon. With the loss the Pioneers drop to 2-4 overall and with the victory the Falcons improve to 4-1 overall.  
 
Pfeiffer got started very quickly as they put in six goals in the first five minutes.  Quinn Becraft scored twice and Nick Pekins, Tucker Hill, Tyler Ajemein, and Caleb Connell all tacked in one goal apiece to give the Falcons the early lead.  Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) put the Pioneers on the board with two goals in two minutes to stop the Pfeiffer momentum.  Trevon King and Ajemein both added another goal in the closing minutes and Pfeiffer had an 8-2 lead going into period two.

The Falcons began the second period much like the started the first.  Pfeiffer scored three times, paced by Brandon Sokolowski with two goals and Pekins adding another.  Chase Mullen (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) scored at the 4:11 mark to bring the margin to eight.  After another Becraft goal, the Pioneers got a score from Alex Nazarczyk (Greenwood, S.C./Corning-Painted Post) to cut into the margin. The Falcons went into halftime with a 12-4 lead.

It took a while for things to pick up in next quarter, but Zach Radcliffe (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) score with 6:52 remaining in the third.  Quinn Rundgren (Angier, N.C./Fuquay Varina) punched a goal in two minutes later as the Pioneers tried to chip away at the lead.  Aiden Keenan and Becraft matched those with goals of the own over the next two minutes, but two late scores by Mullen and Rundgren put the Falcon lead at six after three periods.  Te Falcons locked it down in the fourth quarter as they scored four more times to close out the match, 18-8.

Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) played all 60 minutes in the net, he faced 43 shots, 26 of which were on goal, and made eight saves in the game. 
 
The Pioneers were led by Ficke and Rundgren with two goals apiece. Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) handled the face-off duties and was 7 of 27 on the day. Benjamin Hvorat, Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central), and Jacob Morlando (White Bear Lake, Minn./Stillwater) led the way defensively with three caused turnovers apiece.  Rush also picked up five groundballs turnovers for the Pioneers.
 
Marietta will be back in action Saturday (March 19) when they come home to take on Saint Vincent College with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
