Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse knocked off by Mount Union in a road conference bout

ALLIANCE, Ohio – In an evening that began with a lengthy lightning delay, the Marietta College men's lacrosse team had a tough time getting any offensive spark going and dropped a crucial conference matchup to the University of Mount Union, 22-4.   With the loss the Pioneers fall to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and with the win Mount Union improves to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in OAC action.

"Tonight was not the result we wanted. Credit to Mount union for playing a quality game," said Marietta head coach Nathan Grover.  "Unfortunately, we did not execute to our standards and dug ourselves an early hole we could never get out of."

The Raiders dominated the first quarter as they lit up the Pioneers with eight scores.  They added two more in the second period before Marietta could finally get on the board as Sam Leininger (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) scored a tough goal.  Still, the Raider kept up the pressure adding three more scores and took a 13-1 lead into the intermission.

Conditions did not improve for the Pioneers in the third quarter but Tommy Imhof (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and Jeff McKnight (Port Republic, Va./Ignite Christian Academy) broke through with scores and Marietta trailed 17-3 going into the final period.  Alec Anderson (Loveland, Ohio/Little Miami) tacked on the lone Pioneer goal of the fourth period, but the Raiders went on to record the 22-4 victory.

Cal Henthorne (Wooster, Ohio/St. Edward) got the start for the Pioneers in the net and made six saves. Jack Kelly (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) came on in relief and also made six saves.

Talon Osmun led the Purple Raiders with five goals and assisted on two others to lead all scorers.

Marietta will return to the field next Wednesday (April 22) when they travel to take on Otterbein University in their regular season finale.  The game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
