Track and Field competes in first day of OAC Indoor Championship

ALLIANCE, Ohio — After the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday (Feb. 25), the Marietta women are in sixth place, while the Pioneer men are currently in seventh place.

John Carroll leads the women's competition with 82 points. Mount Union is second with 78 points, followed by Ohio Northern (35 points), Baldwin Wallace (22), Heidelberg (16), Marietta (13), Wilmington (11), Muskingum (7), Otterbein (7) and Capital (1).

Mount Union leads the men's competition with 92 points. John Carroll is second with 56 points, followed by Wilmington (43) points), Ohio Northern (35), Otterbein (24), Capital (11), Baldwin Wallace (4), Marietta (4), Heidelberg (3) and Muskingum (1).

Senior Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) led the women with a second-place finish in the weight throw earning All-OAC honors. Priest recorded a throw of 16.40 meters (53' 9.75") to earn the Pioneers eight team points.

Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) grabbed two points with a seventh place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 14.07 meters (46' 2.00").

Marietta's other three points in the women's championship came from Alison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) in the pole vault. Loase cleared 3.22 meters (10' 6.75") to earn a sixth-place finish.

The men were led on day one by the distance medley relay. Marietta posted a time of 11:42.98 to place seventh and earn two team points. The Pioneer lineup included Gabe Morrell (Portsmouth, Ohio/Northwest), Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area), Zach Riffle (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) and Nathan Ritchie (Fleming, Ohio/Warren Local).

Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville) set a new personal record in the pole vault. He cleared 4.09 meters (13' 5.00") to place eighth and earn one team point.

Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) also earned one point with an eighth-place finish in the weight throw. Priest recorded a mark of 16.01 meters (52' 6.50").

Darius Hatch (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) set a personal record in the 60-meter dash prelims. Hatch crossed the line in 7.25 seconds.

The OAC Indoor Championships wrap up Saturday (Feb. 26). Events start at 10 a.m.
