MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field teams both took top honors in the Pioneer Open on Friday (Jan. 7) in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The Pioneer men placed first out of five teams, while the women were first out of three teams.
Marietta's men's team scored 189 points followed by Pikeville with 49 points and West Virginia Tech with 32. Geneva was fourth with 20 points, while Charleston had 10 points and placed fifth.
On the women's side, the Pioneers amassed 212 team points with Pikeville taking second with 16 points and West Virginia Tech was third with 15 points.
Senior
Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) turned in the performance of the afternoon setting the Marietta College record in the women's weight throw. Priest launched a throw of 15.97 meters (52' 4.75") to eclipse the old mark of 15.89 meters (52' 1.75") held by
Kasey Neville (Belington, W.Va./Philip Barbour). Her throw ranks eighth in NCAA Division III this winter.
Priest also placed third in the shot put with a mark of 10.44 meters (34' 3"). Sophomore
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) had a pair of second place finishes in the shot put (10.62 meters, 34' 10.25") and weight throw (13.59 meters, 44' 7").
Freshman
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) won two events. She set a personal best to win the long jump clearing 4.56 meters (14' 11.5") and took first place in the 200-meter dash breaking the tape in 29.71 seconds.
Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) won the men's weight throw with a personal best distance of 15.39 meters (50' 6"). He also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 12.50 meters (41' 0.25").
Sophomore
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) took first place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.13 seconds. He also placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 12.68 meters (41' 7.25") and was second in the long jump clearing 5.92 meters (19' 5.25").
Sophomore
Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) posted the 18th fastest time in NCAA Division III in the 800-meter run. Wilson posted a time of 1:59.91 to win the event.
The Pioneers are back in action next Friday (Jan. 14) when they host the Marietta Open in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Field events start at 3 p.m. and racing begins at 4:30 p.m.
