Wilson breaks 15-year old record in the 800 to lead Track and Field

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track teams competed in the Wittenberg Steemer Showcase on Saturday (Jan. 29). Junior Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) turned in the marquee performance breaking the Marietta College record in the 800-meter run.

Wilson turned in a time of 1:54.03 to place third in the event. His time eclipsed the old MC record of 1:57.60 set by Jered Mitchem in 2007. Wilson also anchored the Pioneers' 4x400-meter relay team that placed sixth with a time of 3:31.19. Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) ran the lead leg followed by Dominick Glenn (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg), Gabe Morrell (Portsmouth, Ohio/Northwest) and Wilson.

"It was a great day for most of us," Marietta head coach Jason Davis said. "We had some pig PR's on the throws side and Lane (Wilson) shattered the school record in the 800. We are set up to do some great things."

Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) turned in a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.19 meters (43' 3.25"). He set a new personal record in the 60-meter hurdles running an 8.57 second final to place fifth.

Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville) cleared a personal best 3.84 meters (12' 7.25") to finish fifth in the pole vault. Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) placed seventh in the weight throw with a personal record distance of 16.00 meters (52' 6.0").

In the 60-meter dash, Glenn set a new personal best in the prelims crossing the line in 7.10 seconds. In the finals, he ran 7.12 seconds to finish sixth.

Several other Pioneers set personal records in the meet including Kenneth Amos (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel) (shot put), Wade Chuich (Marietta, Ohio/John Glenn) (weight throw), Chasten Coleman (Yadkinville, NC/Forbush) (1000m run), Darius Hatch (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) (60m dash), Jack Hehr (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley) (mile run), Kieffer (400m run), Morrell (800m run), Zack Riffle (mile run) and Nathan Ritchie (Fleming, Ohio/Warren Local) (mile run).

Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) notched two top-three finishes to lead the Pioneer women. She placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 15.86 meters (52' 0.5") and was third in the shot put with a distance of 11.63 meters (38' 2.0").

Alison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) took third place in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.32 meters (10' 10.75"). Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) was ninth in the shot put with a mark of 10.82 meters (35' 6.0") and tenth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.84 meters (42' 1.5").

Ciara Space set a personal record in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:01.85.

Several other Pioneers set personal records in the meet including Ashton Carroll (Corning, Ohio/New Lexington) (pole vault), Kaitlyn Gough (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) (5000m run), Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) (5000m run), Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) (60m dash and 200m dash), Alexis Schreckengost (Williamstown, W.Va./) (weight throw).

Marietta travels to Alliance next Saturday (Feb. 5) for the Mount Union Jim Wuske Invitational. Field events start at 10 a.m. with running events starting at 1 p.m.
