MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College hosted its final indoor track meet of the season Saturday (Jan. 22) as the Pioneers finished tied for third on the women's side and fifth on the men's side of the Pioneer Invitational.
California (Pa.) won the women's team title with 179 points. Seton Hill was second with 150 points, followed by Marietta (65 points), West Liberty (65), Washington & Jefferson (55), Chatham (45), Waynesburg (41), Glenville State (30), Bluefield State (19), Salem (18), St. Vincent (15), Bethany (12) and Kentucky Christian (9).
On the men's side, Seton Hill claimed the top spot with 148 points. California (Pa.) was second with 113.5 points, followed by Glenville State (91 points), Washington & Jefferson (71), Marietta (64.5), St. Vincent (55), West Liberty (55), Chatham (19), Waynesburg (16), Kentucky Christian (14), Bethany (12), Salem (7) and Bluefield State (0).
Alison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) and
Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) won events for the Pioneer women. Loase took first place in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.36 meters (11' 0.25"), while Priest claimed the weight throw with a toss of 16.37 meters (53' 8").
Marietta's pole vaulters claimed 21 total team points as
Alexis Pennell (Clearwater, Fla./East Canton (Ohio)) placed third,
Ashton Carroll (Corning, Ohio/New Lexington) sixth and
Briana Ward (/) was seventh. Pennell cleared 3.05m (10' 0"). Carroll set a new personal best with a height of 2.45m (8' 0.5"), while Ward cleared 2.30m (7' 6.5").
In addition to Priest,
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.10m (42' 11") and
Savannah Flusche (Blacklick, Ohio/) was sixth with a throw of 12.90m (42' 4"). Huffman also took fifth place in the shot put with a mark of 10.70m (55' 1.25").
The women set six other personal best marks in the meet.
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) had a pair finishing sixth in the long jump with a distance of 4.74m (15' 6.75") and eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.72 seconds.
Ciara Space placed second in the 3,000-meter run posting a time of 11:03.19.
Mackenzie Moran (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) recorded a time of 3:37.52 to place third in the 1,000-meter run, while
Kaitlyn Gough (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) took sixth in the 5,000-meter run crossing the line in 21:19.00. In the mile run,
Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) recorded a time of 6:19.89 to finish seventh.
Marietta's men were led by 14 points in the weight throw.
Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) set a new personal best with a heave of 15.59m (51' 1") to place second, while
Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) was third with a personal best throw of 14.21m (46' 7").
Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) won the men's 1,000-meter run with a personal best time of 2:36.83. He then anchored MC's winning 4x400-meter relay team. Wilson was in the middle of the pack when he got the baton, but quickly moved to the front for the win.
Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) led off, followed by
Gabe Morrell (Portsmouth, Ohio/Northwest), Zack Riffle and Wilson. Marietta's winning time was 3:38.21.
Kieffer ran the 400-meter dash and recorded a time of 53.27 seconds to place second.
Dominick Glenn (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) was second in the 55-meter dash crossing the line in 6.60 seconds.
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) earned points with a third-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles posting a time of 8.03 seconds. He also placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.82m (42' 0.75").
Marietta's other points came from
Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville). Watt tied for fourth in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.80m (12' 5.5"), a new personal best.
After starting the season with four straight home meets, the Pioneers hit the road next weekend. Marietta travels to Wittenberg University for the Steemer Showcase on Saturday (Jan. 29).
