MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College hosted the Marietta Open Friday (Jan. 14) afternoon in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The Pioneer women placed third out of 11 teams, while the men finished eighth.
West Virginia Wesleyan won the women's team title with 120 points. Charleston finished second with 85 points followed by Marietta with 69.5 points. Lake Erie amassed 67 points to place fourth, while Concord was one point behind in fifth place with 66 points.
Charleston won the men's event with 90 total points. Point Park notched 77 points, followed by Glenville State (74 points), Lake Erie (72), West Virginia Wesleyan (66.5), West Liberty (60.5), Davis & Elkins (57) and Marietta (47).
The Pioneer pole vaulters led the charge for Marietta's women with four finishers in the top eight.
Alison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) won the event with a height of 3.30m (10' 10"). Alex Pennell cleared 3.00m (9' 10") to take second place.
Jordan Hartle (New Brighton, Pa./Freedom Area) and
Ashton Carroll (Corning, Ohio/New Lexington) both cleared 2.40m (7' 10.5"). Altogether, the Pioneers claimed 21.5 team points on the pole vault.
Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) wasted no time in breaking her own school record in the weight throw. Priest set the record last weekend with a distance of 15.97m (52' 4.75"). She bested that mark by more than a foot with a winning throw of 16.42m (53' 10"). Priest also placed second in the shot put with a heave of 11.46m (37' 7.25").
Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) and
Fredley Tynan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) finished one-two in the 5000-meter run. Poling won with a time of 21:40.34, Tynan posted a personal best time of 22:07.66 to place second.
Marietta's other scoring performances include
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) placing fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.28m (43' 7"),
Cali Barnes-Pierotti (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy) cleared 1.40m (4' 7") in the high jump, good for seventh place, while
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) was eighth in the long jump with a distance of 4.55m (14' 11.25").
Jacob Cribbet (Akron, Ohio/Firestone) turned in the best finish for the Pioneer men. Cribbet placed second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:59.44.
Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) and
Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) each turned in a third-place performance. Priest placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 15.37m (50' 5") and Kieffer took third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.33 seconds.
Marietta got fourth place finishes from
Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) in the mile run,
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) in the 55-meter hurdles and
Dominick Glenn (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) in the 55-mter dash. Wilson posted a personal best time of 4:31.50 in the mile, while Glenn set a new personal-best with a time of 6.57 seconds in the 55m dash. Painter's time in the hurdles was 8.03 seconds.
Marietta's other scoring performances included
Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) placing fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.85m (45' 5") equaling his personal best in the event.
Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville) placed seventh in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.25m (10' 8") and
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 12.45m (40' 10.25").
Marietta hosts its final indoor meet of the season next Saturday (Jan. 22). The Pioneer Invitational is set to begin with field events at 10 a.m. and racing starts at 11:30 a.m.
