Shawnee State knocks off Men's Tennis

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team fell to Shawnee State University, 9-0, Friday (Sept. 17) afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center. The Pioneers open the season with an 0-1 record.

Missing players for medical reasons, the Pioneers were forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match and the Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches.

Shawnee State extended it's lead to 5-0 with wins in the top two doubles matches. Duarte Melo and Zayden Rinehart downed Eric DeLong (Lowell, Ohio/Marietta) and Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) at No. 1 by the score of 8-4. At No. 2, David Frazier and Gavin Donnell lost to Austin Hanshaw and Jacob Freeland, 8-0.

Melo topped DeLong at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-0. Hall lost to Rinehart by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 at No. 2.

At No. 3, Freeland posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Frazier, while Keenen Lambert defeated Donnell at No. 4, by the same score.

Marietta will host Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday (Sept. 18) at 1 p.m.
