WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The Marietta College women's rowing team captured a silver medal at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championship Sunday (April 25) afternoon. The Pioneers' varsity 8+ crew placed second in the Grand Final.

"The women put forward a great fight today. Despite starting toward the back of the pack off the line, they kept their focus," Marietta head coach Abby Lord said. "I am proud of how they committed to each stroke and their determination to raise the bar throughout the 2000m. We are looking forward to lining up against several of the same schools in two weeks at the Dad Vail."

The Pioneers placed third in their morning heat. Washington College won the heat with a time of 7:24.2, followed by Stockton (7:31.5) and Marietta (7:33.3).

After a strong heat, Marietta made some adjustments for the Grand Final. The Pioneers got off to a slow start in the final and was sitting in fourth place in the first 500-meters

After gaining some momentum Marietta took over third place heading into the final 500-meters. A strong sprint to the line allowed the Pioneers to edge overtake Stockton and take the silver medal.

Washington College won the gold medal with a time of 7:09.37. Marietta finished in 7:13.11, followed by Stockton (7:14.42), St. Mary's (7:23.11), Catholic (7:23.77), Franklin & Marshall (7:42.40) and Cabrini (8:59.03).

The All-Conference awards were also announced on Sunday. Eden Durham (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) and Rebecca Guhde (Signal Mountain, Tenn./Girls Prep) earned All-MARC varsity honor, while Michaela Hess (Painesville, Ohio/Fairport Harding) was named to the All-MARC novice team. Four Pioneers earned Academic All-Marc honors including Durham, Guhde, Hess and Catherine Wadih (Cincinnati, Ohio/Clark Montessori).

The Pioneers are back on the water for the Dad Vail Regatta Friday and Saturday (May 7-8) in Philadelphia.
