MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2021-22 indoor season on Friday (Dec. 3rd). The Pioneers hosted their annual First Glimpse meet in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
The Pioneer men finished fourth out of six teams, while the Marietta women placed second out of six teams. The University of Charleston took first place in the men's meet with 196 total points. Glenville State was second with 126 points, followed by Alice Lloyd College (63 points), Marietta (57), University of Pikeville (23) and Capital University (13).
Charleston also won the women's team title with 189 points. Marietta was second with 117 points, followed by Glenville State (101), Capital (29), Pikeville (24) and Alice Lloyd (8).
Sophomore
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) led Marietta winning a pair of events and placing second in another. Painter won the long jump with a leap of 6.59 meters and then took top honors in the triple jump with a mark of 13.34 meters. He placed second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.98 seconds to finish the meet with 28 team points to his credit.
Dominick Glenn (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) scored in both the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes. He placed third in the 200m crossing the line in 23.43 seconds. His time of 6.66 seconds in the 55m was good for a fifth-place finish.
Pioneers placed third and fourth in the pole vault.
Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville) cleared 3.60 meters for third and
Brady Wilson (Chesapeake, Ohio/Chesapeake) was fourth with a height of 3.30 meters.
Marietta also had two athlete place in the men's weight throw. Jake Preist claimed third place with a heave of 15.24 meters, while
Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) finished sixth with a distance of 13.66 meters.
Four Pioneers won events for the women.
Alexis Pennell (East Canton, Ohio/East Canton) won the pole vault with a height of 2.95 meters.
Cali Barnes-Pierotti (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy) took first place in the high jump when she cleared 1.40 meters. She also recorded a second-place finish in the pentathlon with 1682 total points.
Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) and
Faith Malone (Wheelersburg, Ohio/Minford) were Marietta's other winners. Priest claimed 10 team points with a win in the weight throw recording a mark of 15.58 meters. Priest also finished second in the shot put with a distance of 11.94 meters. Malone won the 300-meter dash with a time of 49.43 seconds.
Freshman
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio) had a strong debut placing in three events. Fehrman fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.44 meters. She was finished sixth in both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. Fehrman posted a time of 29.58 seconds in the 200m and crossed the line in 1:09.17 in the 400m.
Fellow freshman
Gracie Yates (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) notched a pair of second place performances. She had a jump of 4.62 meters in the long jump and then followed that with a leap of 8.92 meters in the triple jump.
Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio) finished the 55-meter dash in 8.16 seconds to place fourth.
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) was third in the shot put with a mark of 10.88 meters and place fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.57 meters.
Savannah Flusche (Blacklick, Ohio) was third in the weight throw with a distance of 13.37 meters and recorded a mark of 9.98 meters to place fourth in the shot put.
Jordan Hartle (New Brighton, Pa./Freedom Area) and
Ashton Carroll (Corning, Ohio/New Lexington) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault. Both cleared 2.35 meters.
The Pioneers are off until the new year. Marietta will host the Pioneer Open on January 7th in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
