Women's Rowing advances to Dad Vail Level 2 Final

5/10/2019 9:37:00 PM

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Marietta College women's varsity 4+ crew overcame a rough first 1,000 meters in its heat Friday (May 10) morning and advanced into Saturday's Level 2 Final at the 81st annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta.

"We handled a couple of challenges in the first half of the race with windy conditions and a few missed strokes, but held it together for a solid race," Marietta head coach Abby Klicker said. "We're looking forward to good competition in the petite final tomorrow."

The Pioneers raced in the third of three heats in the Division II & III varsity heavyweight 4+ division and finished fourth. Nova Southeastern and Humboldt pulled away from the rest of the field and finished first and second, respectively, to qualify for the Grand Final.

Franklin & Marshall took advantage of Marietta's early problems and maintained an open water lead on the Pioneers over the final 1,000 meters. F&M crossed the line in 8:47.923 with Marietta 15 seconds behind with a time of 9:03.125. Susquehanna and Ohio Wesleyan finished a distant fifth and sixth.

Marietta will be in lane five in Saturday's Level 2 Final. Assumption will be in lane one, followed by Franklin & Marshall, Merrimack, Mercyhurst, Marietta and Franklin Pierce.
