LEWISBERRY, Pa. — Mother Nature was an unwelcome guest at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships on Saturday (April 27) at Gifford Pinchot State Park. High winds and unsafe course conditions forced a six-hour delay in racing and an altered race schedule.
"I thought we raced well in challenging conditions today," Marietta head coach
Abby Klicker said. "We're looking forward to finishing the season strong at the Dad Vail."
One of the schedule changes turned the women's varsity 4+ into a time trial format. The Pioneers' entry posted the third fastest time. Lafayette had the best time of 8:25.84, with North Park second at 8:48.31 and the Navy Blue and White third at 8:59.98).
In addition to the racing, the MARC award winners were announced at the annual championship regatta.
Laura Rauch (Lowell, Ohio/Marietta) was named Varsity All-MARC, while
Claudia Frueh (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) earned Novice All-MARC honors. Senior
Mandi Medykowski (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) earned Academic All-MARC accolades for the second straight season.
The Pioneers are back on the water at the 81st annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Friday and Saturday (May 10-11).
