MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College Director of Athletics Larry Hiser announced the hiring of Abby Klicker '13 as the Pioneers' head women's rowing coach Thursday (July 5) afternoon. Klicker takes over for Brad Hemmerly, who resigned this spring after five years at the helm of the women's rowing program.

"We are delighted to welcome Abby back to the confluence. She was a great rower and leader on the team during the most successful era of women's rowing at Marietta, making two NCAA national championship appearances," Hiser said. "She jumped right into coaching after MC and has made progress each year she's been in the profession. Abby showed great pride for the program and is eager to take it over and put her stamp on it. We look forward to supporting her as she builds another championship program at Marietta College."

Klicker returns to her alma mater after three years on the women's rowing coaching staff at Bucknell University, an NCAA Division I member of the Patriot League. Klicker started as the recruiting coordinator for the Bison before becoming the head novice coach and then Bucknell's top assistant.

"I would like to thank Larry  Hiser, the hiring committee, and the other members of the Marietta College community who I met during the hiring process. I am honored to be able to continue the strong tradition of women's rowing at Marietta College," Klicker said. "As a student-athlete I experienced tremendous growth through the genuine encouragement and support of the faculty, staff, and Marietta College community as a whole. I look forward to being a part of the growth and success of the next generation of Pioneer oarswomen."

A four-year varsity oarswoman for the Pioneers, Klicker was a two-time All-Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference rower and three-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete. She helped the Navy Blue & White to a pair of Dad Vail Division II/Division III varsity 8+ gold medals and back-to-back NCAA Division III Championship appearances in 2011 and 2012.

Klicker began her coaching career as a volunteer coach at Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania in 2014. She spent the 2014-15 academic year as the head freshman rowing coach at Oakland Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania.

A Pittsburgh native, Klicker received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Studio Art from Marietta in 2013. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and also earned a Leadership Certificate.
