MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College Director of Athletics
Larry Hiser announced that Head Women's Rowing Coach
Brad Hemmerly will step down at the end of the 2018 racing season.
"We appreciate the hard work and dedication that Coach Hemmerly put into our women's rowing program the past five years," Hiser said. "We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
The Pioneers close out the 2018 season at the 80th annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta May 11-12 on the historic Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
Hemmerly took over the women's rowing program at Marietta College in the fall of 2013 and led the Pioneers to back-to-back Dad Vail Division III Varsity 8+ gold medals in 2014 and 2015.
In those years, Marietta also advanced the second varsity crew into the Grand Final taking the bronze medal in 2014 and placing sixth in 2015.
The Navy Blue and White earned a Dad Vail bronze medal in the 2016 varsity 8+ division and another bronze in the 2017 varsity 4+ race.
A national search for Marietta's next head women's rowing coach will begin immediately. Women's rowing was added as a varsity sport at Marietta College in 1977. The Pioneers have won seven Dad Vail gold medals.
