Men's Tennis closes regular season with loss to Baldwin Wallace

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's tennis team closed the regular season with a 9-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace University Saturday (April 27) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 8-8 overall and 3-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, The Yellow Jackets improve to 23-1 on the season and 8-1 in the OAC.

Baldwin Wallace swept the doubles matches for a 3-0 lead. Peter Harris and Doug Ganim defeated Ashton Whitehead and Alex Schaeffer (Louisville, Ohio/Marlington) at the top spot by the score of 8-4.

At No. 2, Kyle Patterson and Brad Minrovic posted an 8-1 win over Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York). Joe Horvath and Alexander Kearney blanked Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) and Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) at No. 3, 8-0.

The Yellow Jackets picked up five straight-set victories in singles play. Marietta's lone set win came at No. 5 singles where Grant and Ganim split the first two sets. Grant took the first set 7-6 (7-3) before dropping the second, 6-1. Ganim collected the match win with a 10-8 pro-set victory in the third set.

BW's Horvath, Kyle Patterson and Harris were victorious at Nos. 1-3 singles, respectively. Horvath was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Whiteleather. Patterson downed Schaeffer 6-0 and 6-0, while Harris defeated Daub, 6-2 and 6-1.

Kearney downed Knauff at No. 4 singles, 6-0 and 6-0. The Yellow Jackets completed the sweep with Zach Elbin's win at No. 6 over Sigman, 6-3, 6-2.

Marietta is the No. 6 seed in the OAC Tournament and will play at No. 3 seed Otterbein University on Tuesday (April 30) at 3:30 p.m. The Cardinals finished the season 14-6 and 6-3 in the OAC.
