Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) earned Marietta College's lone team point in an 8-1 loss at John Carroll University Saturday (April 20) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action.
Marietta is currently 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the OAC. John Carroll moves to 4-10 on the season and 3-3 in the OAC.
Knauff posted a staright-set win over Peter Nemes at No. 4 singles. Kanuff took the first set, 6-3, before closing out the match with a 6-4 score in the second.
John Carroll managed to sweep three close doubles matches. Ryan Mullaney and Sean Graham defeated
Ashton Whiteleather (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville, Ohio/Marlington) 8-5 at No. 1.
Nemes and Eric Grimaldi hung on to beat
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) at No. 2 by the score of 8-6. Paul Olexa and Sawyer Dina completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3 against Knauff and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca).
Mullaney downed Whiteleather at No. 1 singles by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Graham posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 against Schaeffer, while Dina defeated Daub at No. 3, 6-2 and 6-4.
At No. 5, Grant fell to Grimaldi, 6-3 and 6-4. Olexa finished the match off with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6 over
Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International).
