TIFFIN, Ohio – The Marietta College men's tennis team defeated Heidelberg University Saturday (April 13) afternoon by the score of 5-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
The Pioneers are enjoying one of the best seasons in program history and are currently 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. Heidelberg falls to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Marietta got wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and then grabbed points at Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles for the wins. With the match decided, Nos. 4 and 6 singles matches were unfinished due to playing conditions.
Teddy daub and
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) defeated Dorion Kempf and Matt McDivitt at No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (7-3), while
Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) were 8-6 winners at No. 3 over Dan Driscoll and Brandon Lust.
Freshman Ashton Whiteweather beat Cliff Goetz in the top singles match, 6-2 and 6-4. Grant downed Driscoll at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-1, while Daub won a three-set thriller over Kempf at No. 2. Daub won the first set 6-0 before dropping the second, 5-7. He came back to post a 6-2 win in the third to take the team point.
The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday (April 16) when Otterbein University comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. match. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
