Men's Tennis dominates Muskingum University in 9-0 win

MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College posted a dominating 9-0 win over rival Muskingum University Wednesday (April 10) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action. The Pioneers are now 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the OAC. The Muskies fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-5 in the OAC.

It was nearly a perfect day for the Pioneers as they won all but two games. Muskingum managed two take one game in an 8-1 loss at No. 1 doubles and one game at No. 2 singles, losing the match 6-1 and 6-0.

Alex Schaeffer (Louisville, Ohio/Marlington) and Ashton Whiteleather (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) picked up the win for the Pioneers in the top doubles spot over Parker Abraham and John Barr.

Marietta's other two doubles teams posted 8-0 wins. Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) downed Gene Montgomery and Ben Windland at No. 2, while Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) and Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) were victorious at No. 3 against Matt Allen and Jonah Neff.

Other than Schaeffer's win over Barr at No. 2, the other five singles matches were all 6-0, 6-0 shutouts for the Pioneers.

In the top spot, Whiteleather defeated Abraham. Daub beat Windland and Knauff blanked Montgomery at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.

Grant downed Allen at No. 5, while Abdul Sheikh (Columbus/Saint Johnsbury Acad.) shutout Neff at No. 6 singles to complete the sweep.
