MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's and women's tennis teams lost Ohio Athletic Conference matches to John Carroll University Thursday (April 26) afternoon. The Blue Streaks won the women's match by the score of 8-1 and took the men's match, 9-0. [Men's Box Score] [Women's Box Score]

The Marietta women are 1-11 overall and 0-7 in the OAC, while the men fall to 7-7 on the season and 2-6 in league play. John Carroll's women improve to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the OAC. The Blue Streak men are now 6-11 and 4-4.

John Carroll swept the women's doubles matches. Cassie Simmelink and Tracy Gibson downed #Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa./South Park)# and #Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat)# at No. 1 by the score of 8-2. Erin Davies and Hannah Baumwell were 8-0 winners at No. 2 over #Sarah Snow (Twentynine Palms, Calif./29 Palms)# and #Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville)#. Finally, Emily Gorndt and Julia Ciccolini posted a 8-5 win against #Jamie Taylor (Allen, Md./Parkside)# and #Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt)# at No. 3.

The Blue Streaks won the top five singles match-ups, while Marietta's Turner won the No. 6 match against Melissa Dillon, 8-6.

Simmelink defeated Cornell at the top spot, 8-1. Davies downed Gisser, 8-1, at No. 2, while Gibson posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 versus #Kelsey Jeffrey#. At No. 4, Baumwell was an 8-0 winner over Bush. Gorndt took down Snow, 8-3, at No. 5.

On the men's side, John Carroll swept the doubles and then won all six singles in straight sets.

The No. 1 team of Ryan Mullaney and Rico Certo blanked #Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg)# and #Dave Koscielny (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian)#, 8-0. Sean Graham and Peter Scanniello downed #Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York)# and #Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area)#, 8-6, at No. 2, while Cass Stadnik and Eric Grimaldi were 8-4 winners over #Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International)# and #Ryan Gontero (Kent/Kent Roosevelt)# in the third position.

Mullaney, Graham and Certo won the Nos. 1-3 singles, respectively. Mullany beat Daub, 6-0 and 6-1. Graham defeated Koscielny by the score of 6-3, 6-2, while Certo downed Knauff, 7-6 (11-9) and 6-1.

The bottom three singles went to Scanniello, Grimaldi and Stadnik. Scanniello defeated Grant, 6-2 and 6-2. Grimaldi posted a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Ahmed. Stadnik downed #Abdul Sheikh (Columbus/Saint Johnsbury Acad.)# at No. 6, 6-2 and 6-2.

Both the Marietta men and women play at Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday (April 28) at 1 p.m.
