MARIETTA, Ohio — Stellar pitching performances from junior
Mark Williams (Fayetteville, Perry) and sophomore
Austin Blaski (Pandora, Gilboa) and solid defense sparked the #10 Marietta College baseball team to a 6-0 and 10-0 sweep of visiting Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foe Mount Union College Saturday (March 27) afternoon at Don Schaly Stadium. The wins helped the Etta Express, who have now won 11 of its last 12 games, improve to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. The Purple Raiders fell to 7-5, 0-2 in league play. [

Williams dominated the Purple Raiders' lineup in game one by throwing a five-hit shutout, his second of the season. Williams, who improved 3-1, struck out five and did not allow a walk in the victory.
Marietta's bats finished with eight hits, including two from freshman right fielder
Jordan Grilliot (Brookville, Northmont), who drove in three of the Pioneers' six runs. The Etta Express also took advantage of four Purple Raider errors, which led to three of the six runs being unearned in the game.
Mount Union's Mark Sabatino suffered his first loss of the year. Sabatino (3-1) gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits, walked one and struck out four in the loss. Matt Tracy had two of the Purple Raiders' five hits in the game.
Blaski took the ball in game two and fired eight shutout innings against Mount Union. He scattered six hits and two walks while striking out five in the longest outing of his career. Blaski, who improved to 3-1, also lowered his ERA to a team-best 0.36.
Freshman
Luke Langdon (Troy, Troy) closed the game with a scoreless ninth. He allowed one hit, walked another and struck out a third Purple Raider.
Marietta's offense, which produced 10 runs on 14 hits, got started with single runs in the first, third and fourth frames. The Etta Express then broke through with four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth en route to the victory.
Sophomore shortstop
Tim Saunders (Alliance, Alliance), who had his 14-game hitting streak snapped in game one, finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Saunders has reached base safely in all 16 games this season.
Senior catcher
Chris Beatty (Seven Fields, Pa., Hampton) and sophomore second baseman
Kirby Becker (South Euclid, St. Ignatius) went 2-for-3, while junior left fielder
Britt Meador (Columbus, Worthington Kilbourne) was 2-for-4. Beatty, who broke his 12 game hitting streak in the opener, drilled his team-leading ninth double and sixth home run and increased his RBI total to a team-best 27 by driving in three runs in the win. Freshman third baseman
Braden Park (Oxford, Talawanda) also hit his first career home run in the game.
Cody Colly (1-1) was handed the loss after he was charged with seven runs (four earned) on eight hits in five innings. No Mount Union players collected more than one hit in the night cap.
The Etta Express is back in action Sunday (March 28) afternoon when its plays host to Montclair State University in a single, nine-inning game. First pitch at Don Schaly Stadium is now slated for 12 p.m. It was originally slated for 1 p.m. but pushed up in attempt to avoid the rain expected on Sunday afternoon.
