MARIETTA, Ohio — Former Marietta College baseball All-American Turner Hill '22 was called up to the major leagues by the San Francisco Giants Thursday (August 13) morning. Hill becomes the seventh Pioneer to reach Major League Baseball.
"We are incredibly proud of Turner and equally as happy for his family," former Marietta College head baseball coach Brian Brewer said. "Can't say that I am surprised given his skill set, work ethic, and his strong faith in God. This is a special time for a special young man. Hill Yeah!"
Hill's promotion was inevitable as the speedy outfielder was enjoying a record setting season with the Giants' Triple-A Sacramento affiliate in the Pacific Coast League. Hill leaves Sacramento on a 26-game hitting streak, a record for the River Cats. He was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Month for July and currently leads the league in hitting with a .353 batting average.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and excited to be here," Hill said. "It's something I've worked toward for a long time, and I'm looking forward to making the most of it. I am blessed with all the people back home who have helped me get here."
Hill has been Sacramento's most productive offensive player this summer. He leads the River Cats in virtually every offensive category including batting average (.353), hits (114), runs scored (65), doubles (22), home runs (9), runs batted in (60), and stolen bases (23).
The Giants signed Hill as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He was promoted to Double-A in 2024 where he started this season. After a quick start this spring, he was promoted to Sacramento in April.
Hill played two seasons in the Marietta College pinstripes after transferring from Malone University. The Marietta native earned All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com in each of his two seasons for the Etta Express. He was first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and OAC Player of the Year both years.
The Giants are off today before hosting the Colorado Rockies for a three-game series August 14-16 in Oracle Park. Pioneer fans can catch the Giants in Cleveland when they play the Guardians August 18-20.
