Sims sets school record in 100m Dash on day one of Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Marietta College freshman Brittany Sims (Columbus/Eastmoor Academy) broke the school record in the 100m Dash to highlight the Pioneers' performance on day one of the non-team scoring 2009 Wake Forest Open on Friday (March 21).

Sims, who won her heat, crossed the line in 12.71 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 13.17 seconds, which was set last year by Tara Leach. She finished tied for 18th place among 49 entrants.

Senior Jessi Larrison (Batavia) ran the second fastest 800m Run of her career. Larrison placed 12th of 87 after covering the distance in 2:16.64. Junior Brenda Puckett (Eaton/Preble Shawnee) ran a personal record in the 800m, finishing in 2:28.39.

A pair of Marietta student-athletes cleared season bests in the Women's Pole Vault. Sophomore Olivia Holiday (Malta/Morgan) won the second heat after clearing 3.30m (10-10.00). Freshman Kim Keesler (Chagrin Falls) finished with a mark of 3.05m (10-00.00), which placed her fifth in the same heat.

Juniors Josh Mickle (Madison) and Kent Reiber (Avon Lake) both ran season bests in the 800m Run. Mickle completed the race in 2:00.12, while Reiber finished in 2:05.31.

Sophomore Zach Gay (Elyria/Oberlin) tied for fifth in the High Jump after clearing 1.92m (6-03.50).

Senior Brian Pallini (Medina) set a personal record in the Hammer Throw by finishing with a mark of 47.16m (154-09), which placed him 10th. He also took 11th in the Shot Put with a mark of 14.42m (47-03.75).
