Cross Country races in OAC Championships

FINDLAY, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's cross country teams raced in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Saturday (Nov. 2) morning at Hillcrest Golf Course. The Pioneer women placed ninth on the 6,000-meter course, while the men finished tenth in the 8,000-meter race.
 
John Carroll swept the team titles, while Wilmington had both the men's and women's individual champions.
 
John Carroll took the men's team title with four of the top five finishers and a total of 26 points. Mount Union was second with 61 points, followed by Ohio Northern (77 points), Otterbein (85), Wilmington (158), Baldwin Wallace (181), Capital (217), Heidelberg (223), Muskingum (255). And Marietta (267).
 
Wilmington's Noah Tobin won the men's individual championship with a time of 24:20.9. Charles Putnam (Marietta, Ohio/) was Marietta's top finisher. He crossed the line in a personal record time of 25:53.1 finishing 29th overall.
 
Four other Pioneers ran personal best times in the championship race. Franko Rome (Cambridge, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) posted a time of 27:45.0, Kevin Hernandez (Plymouth, Ohio/Willard) (28:20.9), Matthew Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) (30:47.0), and Aiden Keener (Orrville, Ohio/Smithville) (34:31.2) all recorded new personal record times.
 
The remainder of the Pioneer lineup included Jack Hehr (Zanesville, Ohio/Tri-Valley) (29:38.5), Aiden Westerman (Vincent, Ohio/Warren Local) (30:07.3), and Cameron Logue (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) (32:24.6).
 
John Carroll took home the women's team title with 42 points. Ohio Northern was second with 65 points, followed by Otterbein (79 points), Mount Union (81), Baldwin Wallace (140), Capital (217), Muskingum (221), Heidelberg (230), Marietta (239), and Wilmington (244).
 
Wilmington's Faith Duncan crossed the finish line in 19:49.2 to claim the women's individual championship. Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) was Marietta's top finisher posting a personal record time of 24:02.1 to place 40th overall.
 
Including Poling, five of Marietta's six runners posted personal record times in the race. Annabel Malone (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) (24:24.3), Audrey Helmick (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) (25:27.7), Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) (27:07.1), and Rami Padilla (St. Clairsville, Ohio/) (28:54.8) all recorded new personal bests. Mackenzie Moran (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) (27:10.9) rounded out the Pioneer lineup.
 
Marietta will run in the NCAA Regional Championship on Saturday (Nov. 16) in Franklin, Indiana.
