MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field team opened 2024 with a dual meet win over Pikeville College Friday (Jan. 12) afternoon in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The Pioneer men won 154-62, while the women posted a 102-73 victory.
Marietta had 11 event wins, including two each by
Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll),
Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson),
Vante' Hodges (Horn Lake, Miss./Horn Lake) and
Ian Alspaugh (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls). Poling won the women's 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:41.39 and the mile run with a time of 6:04.29. Adams won the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 7.77 seconds and 27.93 seconds, respectively. Hodges won the men's 55-meter dash in 6.66 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.90 seconds. Alspaugh won the 1,000-meter run in 2:58.94 and the mile run in 5:00.52.
Several Pioneers set new personal records in the meet. Poling notched new personal bests in both the 1,000m and mile runs.
Annabel Malone (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) and
Katlynn Wald (Parma, Ohio/Normandy) did the same. Malone finished the 1,000m in 3:58.87 and the mile in 6:36.69, while Wald finished the 1,000m in 4:03.41 and the mile in 6:34.64.
Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) had a personal record distance of 8.67 meters.
The Pioneer men recorded 15 new personal records. Alsapugh set personal bests in both the 1,000m and mile runs. Hodges had personal records in the 55m and 200m.
Brendan Bates (Lore City, Ohio/) cleared 4.00 meters in the pole vault and
Evan Fee (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) had a distance of 10.75 meters in the shot put.
Three Pioneers set personal records in the weight throw, including
Andrew Franchini (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) (12.71M),
Wade Chuich (Marietta, Ohio/John Glenn) (11.97m), and
Ryan House (New Concord, Ohio/John Glenn) (11.63m). Jack Heher (3:02.39),
Cameron Logue (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) (3:03.08),
Clark Wilson (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) (3:05.05), and
Aaron Rohr (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) (3:05.24) all recorded personal records in the 1,000m run.
Wilson also set a personal best in the mile run finishing in 5:11.66. The final PR came from
Eric Thurman (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) in the 55-meter dash crossing the line in 6.88 seconds.
Marietta will have several Pioneers compete in the Marshall Alumni Classic meet on Saturday (Jan. 13). Events start at 9:30 a.m.
