Baseball ranked No. 1, Softball No. 3, in latest NCAA Regional rankings

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College baseball and softball teams are both putting together great seasons in 2023.  The Etta Express has compiled a 28-9 record so far this year and has now moved into the top spot in this week's NCAA Region VII rankings.  The softball team is currently 23-11 for the season and now sits at No. 3 in this week's NCAA Region VII rankings.

The baseball team, also No. 12 in the latest D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top-25, went 4-1 this last week.  The Pioneers split a doubleheader with rival John Carroll early in the week but then shut out Oberlin College in a single midweek game.  They finished the week sweeping Heidelberg in a conference doubleheader.  Although Marietta trails Baldwin Wallace in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, they have clinched a spot in the OAC Tournament.  Conference tournament play begins May 11 with the location yet to be determined.

The softball team complied a 3-1 record last week as they split with nonconference Penn State Behrend last Sunday and outlasted Heidelberg in a doubleheader sweep later in the week.  The Pioneers are tied with Mount Union for first place in the OAC and have clinched a spot in the OAC Tournament.  Depending on how both teams finish, Marietta still has a good chance at hosting the tournament, which also begins May 11.

The baseball team closes out the regular season at Don and Sue Schaly Field at Pioneer Park on Thursday (May 4) for a doubleheader against Capital University and then play a nonconference game at Otterbein on Sunday (May 7).  The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.  The softball team travels to Capital for a doubleheader on Sunday (May 7) and has a doubleheader at DePauw University the following day to close out their regular season.
