MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's golf team hosted the annual Pioneer Classic to open its spring competition season Saturday (March 18) afternoon at the Marietta Country Club. Originally scheduled as a two-day, two-round tournament, the second day was canceled due to the extreme cold temperatures.
Otterbein won the team crown with a team score of 345, well ahead of second place Mount Union (371). Heidelberg finished third with a score of 397, followed by Capital (402), Baldwin Wallace (425), and Marietta (428).
Mount Union's Mattie Muckleroy shot an eight-over-par, 80, to win medalist honors. Otterbein's Becky Williams was four shots back with an 84 to place second, while Mount Union's Madison Gruber and Otterbein's Emma McGreal tied for third with a round of 85.
Helena Immel (Sugarcreek, Ohio/Garaway) led the Pioneers with a round of 99 to finish tied for 17th.
Evie Gravlin (Columbus, Ohio/New Albany) (107),
Ava Huebner (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) (110),
Shelby Byland (Coshocton, Ohio/River View) (112), and
Grace Wharton (Waterford, Ohio/Warren) (116) rounded out the Marietta lineup.
Marietta's
Anna Reupert (Elsmere, Ky./Dixie Heights) played as an individual and carded a 99 to tie for 17th with Immel.
Michaela Medich (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) also played as an individual and shot a round of 111.
Marietta plays in the Muskingum Invitational on Monday (March 27) at the Zanesville Country Club.
