Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer defeated on the road by Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated by Chatham University, 7-1, on Wednesday (Sept. 6) evening.  With the win the Cougars improve to 1-1 on the season, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 0-1-1 overall.

"We believe quality competition makes us better.  We'll take this one on the chin and learn from it," said Head Coach Sean Kaighin.  "Credit to the opposition as they were very good and effective in their game plan."

The Cougars wasted no time as they scored first, just four minutes into the game.  Megan Anderson scored, and went on to score twice more, to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead at the 34-minute mark.  Madison Miller (Marietta, Ohio/Warren) was pressured throughout the contest but managed to get three first half saves.  The Cougars chipped in one more goal and made a last second save on a Gia Germana (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) shot to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. The Pioneers were out shot, 10-6 in the first half, with seven of the 10 Cougar shots on goal.

A pair of Tiffany Michalek goals in the first 19 minutes of the second half widened the lead for Chatham.  It was not until the 84th minute that Marietta found the back of the net.  Germana took an Emma Egli (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) pass and deposited it into the goal for the one and only Pioneer score on the evening.  The Cougars won the game 7-1.

Miller played all 90 minutes in goal for Marietta, she faced 11 shots on goal, and made four saves in the match.

The Pioneers will return to the field Sunday (Sept. 11) when they host Mt. St. Joseph with a 2 p.m. start time.
