BELLE VERNON, Pa. — The Marietta College women's golf team opened the 2022-23 season with an eleventh-place finish at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University Pennsylvania. Marietta was the only non-Division II team in the field. The tournament was played in extremely wet conditions due to heavy rains.
Charleston won the one-run event with a team score of 321. Glenville State was second with a 327, followed by California (Pa.) (328), Millersville (339), Wheeling (344), Barton (344), Davis & Elkins (350), West Chester (362), Shepherd (368), Seton Hill (375) and Marietta (392).
Charleston's Iciar Canalejo was the medalist with a 3-over-par 75.
Helena Immel (Sugarcreek, Ohio/Garaway) led the Pioneers with a round of 89, tied for 39th place.
Melanie Gibson (Newcomerstown, Ohio/Newcomerstown) finished with a score of 94.
Ava Huebner (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) carded a 98, while
Evie Gravlin (Columbus, Ohio/New Albany) (111) and
Grace Wharton (Waterford, Ohio/Warren) (118) rounded out the Pioneer lineup.
Marietta is back in action on Sunday (Sept. 11) at the Mount Union Fall Invitational.
