Cross Country competes in the All-Ohio Championships

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's cross country teams competed under the lights in the All-Ohio Championships Friday (Sept. 16) night. The Pioneer women's finished 13th, while the men placed 14th among the Division III schools.

"Another week with more improvements. Our athletes have put in the work and are trusting the process," Marietta head coach Jason Davis. "There were multiple PRs and our top runners are closing the gap."
 
John Carroll won the 5,000-meter women's race with 34 team points. Wittenberg (75) finished second with Case Western (98) third, Baldwin Wallace (107) and Otterbein (179) rounded out the top five. Marietta scored 363 total points.
 
Baldwin Wallace sophomore Hope Murphy won the women's Division III race with a time of 18:06.9. Six Pioneers set new personal records at the 5K distance.
 
Kaitlyn Gough (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) finished in 21:23.8 to lead the Pioneers. Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) crossed in 22:39.0. Mackenzie Moran (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) (23:29.1), Kayla Kearns (Preston, Md./Easton) (23:36.7) and Haille Rogers (Apollo Beach, Fla./East Lake) (23:57.8) all finished within seconds of each, while Abby Shartle (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View) (24:40.6) and Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) (26:46.7) rounded out the Marietta lineup.
 
Gough, Poling, Kearns, Rogers, Shartle and Adams all set new personal records in the race.
 
Otterbein won the 8,000-meter men's race. The Cardinals totaled 25 team points. Wilmington was second with 65 points, followed by Case Western (123), Baldwin Wallace (153) and Kenyon (171). Marietta was 14th with 424 total points.
 
Wilmington junior Simon Heys won the Division III men's race with a time of 24:22.9. Pioneer senior Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) led Marietta with a time of 29:06.4.
 
Marietta's next three finishers all set new personal records for the 8K distance. Jacob Cribbet (Akron, Ohio/Firestone) (29:07.3), Aaron Rohr (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) (31:04.7) and Clark Wilson (Indianapolis, Indiana/Southport) (32:14.5) all finished with new personal best times.
 
Jack Heher (32:31.6) and Jason Panas (Saint Clairsville, Ohio/Saint Clairsville) (33:14.0) rounded out the Marietta lineup.
 
Marietta is off until Saturday (Oct. 1) when the Pioneers will run in the Muskingum Invitational.
