Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer dominates Berea

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team dominated Berea College on Sunday (Sept. 12) to earn a 6-0 win on Marietta Field.  With the win the Pioneers are now 1-3 overall and with the loss the Mountaineers fall to 2-4 overall.

"A fantastic team performance today by our young women, and now we have more confidence moving forward," said Heaad Coach Sean Kaighin.  "We are happy, but not yet satisfied."

Marietta opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the match off of a corner kick.  Demi Mills (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) took the corner and bent her shot into the lower near post to put the Pioneers on top 1-0.  Marietta doubled its lead in the 16th minute when Olivia Alberto (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) dribbled passed her defender and centered at the top of the box, Angelene Kontul (Solon, Ohio/Solon) placed her shot into the lower right corner of the goal.

Three minutes later the Pioneers made the score 3-0 when Madi Wagner (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) placed her shot in the lower right corner of the goal, off the corner kick taken by Mills.  Marietta increased its lead in the 24th minute of the match when Kayla Stischok (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) drove her free kick into the far side of the goal, to make the score 4-0.

Alli Stahl (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) and Emmah Kronenbitter (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville) had a nice give and go at the top of the 18-yard box to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Pioneers.  Kronenbitter found the back of the net off an assist from Stahl.  The final goal of the half came off the foot of Grace Crosby (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) as she scored from the left side of the box of an assist from Kronenbitter.

The second half was a scoreless battle and the Pioneers won the game 6-0.  The backline of Anna Bardwell (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central), Emma Diorio (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), Mills, and Wagner helped goalies Brooke Smith (Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood) and Drew Ultican (Baltimore, Ohio/Pickerington North) pitch the first shutout of the season.  The goalies each played a half in net, and the duo faced 10 shots, seven of which were on goal, and made seven saves.

Marietta will return to the field Saturday (Sept. 18) when they travel to take on Mount St. Joseph, with the game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
