PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — The Marietta College men's rowing team entered four shells in the 82 annual Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Saturday (May 8) on the Schuylkill River. Two of the Pioneers' entries advanced to the Grand Final in their respective divisions, while the other two made the second level finals.

The varsity heavyweight 8+ crew placed third in its morning heat and took second place in the second level final in the afternoon. In the heats, the Pioneers finished behind St. Josephs (5:46.092) and George Washington (5:48.750). Marietta fought off Jacksonville down the stretch and finished with a time of 6:00.232, three seconds ahead of JU.

Delaware took first place in the second level final with a time of 5:42.036. Marietta was four seconds behind crossing in 5:46.818 ahead of Bucknell, Georgetown, Jacksonville and Virginia.

MC's junior varsity heavyweight 8+ crew took fourth place in the Grand Final. The Pioneers qualified for the Grand Final with a third place showing in the heats. George Washington (6:00.024) won the heat followed by St. Josephs (6:08.006) and Marietta (6:10.138).

In the Grand Final, GW grabbed the gold medal with a time of 5:51.255. Drexel placed second crossing the line in 5:55.859, followed by Temple (6:03.261), Marietta (6:05.811), St. Josephs and Stetson.

The Navy Blue and White's varsity heavyweight 4+ crew placed third in the morning heats to qualify for the second level final. Marietta withdrew from the afternoon final.

Oklahoma City won the heat with a time of 7:03.045, followed by Georgetown (7:15.979), Marietta (7:31.171), Manhattan and Stockton.

Marietta's final entry was in the Freshman/Novice 4+ race. The Pioneer crew placed second in the heats to qualify for the Grand Final. Fairfield A won the heat in 7:13.643. Marietta crossed in 7:25.301, followed by Bucknell, Fairfield B and Stockton.

Fairfield A edged Mercyhurst for the gold medal in the Grand Final. Fairfield posted a winning time of 6:36.675. Mercyhurst crossed in 6:38.135, followed by Temple, Virginia, Marietta (6:54.863) and Lafayette.

Marietta will be back on the water for the IRA Championships May 28-30 in West Windsor, New Jersey.
