MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's rowing team hosted the University of Wisconsin for a series of three races Saturday (April 3) morning on the Ohio River. The Pioneers and Badgers ran three 2,000-meter races.
First on the water was the third varsity 8 crews. The Badgers showed their extensive depth gaining open water on the Pioneers in the first 500 meters. Wisconsin cruised to a 30 second victory finishing in 5:14.85 with the Pioneers crossing the line in 5:44.93.
The second varsity 8 race was the closest of the day. Wisconsin got off the line quick and maintained a small lead throughout the length of the course. The Badgers finished with a time of 5:14.31, six seconds ahead of the Pioneers, who crossed in 5:20.89.
In the final race of the day between the first varsity 8 crews, Wisconsin was the first to cross the line. The Badgers pulled away early and maintained an open water lead over the second half of the course. Wisconsin posted a winning time of 5:03.41 with the Pioneers finishing in 5:24.04.
Marietta travels to Philadelphia on Saturday (April 10) to race Drexel, Saint Joseph's and Gonzaga.
