ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Marietta College men's rowing team took on the United States Naval Academy Lightweight rowing team Saturday (March 27) morning on the Severn River. The Midshipmen swept three races from the Pioneers.
The first race of the morning featured four boats in the third varsity 8+ race. Navy finished one-two-three ahead of Marietta's 3V crew. Navy's 3V shell finished first with a time of 6:08.0. The Mids' 4V was three seconds behind crossing in 6:11.0, followed by the Navy 5V (6:16.6) and Marietta (6:36.1).
The first varsity 8+ crews were next on the water. Navy got off to a fast start in the two-boat race and was ahead by two lengths midway through the 2,000-meter course. Navy won by nearly 14 seconds posting a time of 5:53.2 with Marietta finishing in 6:07.1.
In the closest race of the day, Navy edged Marietta in the second varsity eight race. The Mids held a slight advantage over the final 1,000-meters and posted a winning time of 6:06.3. Marietta finished in 6:12.3.
Marietta hosts the University of Wisconsin on Saturday (April 3).
