Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer beaten at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated at Heidelberg, 3-1 on Saturday (Oct. 9) inside Hidden Valley Stadium.  With the loss the Pioneers fall to 1-8-1 overall and 0-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and with the win the Student Princes improve to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in OAC play.  

"Hats off to a Heidelberg team who out played us.  We were not the team we know we are capable of being today," said Head Coach Sean Kaighin.    

Heidelberg jumped out to a lead in the 11th minute of the match.  Bekah Thomas put the Student Princes on top when she found the bottom right corner of the net off an assist from Madi Lause.  

Marietta answered 20 minutes later, in the 31st minute of the match.  Emmah Kronenbitter (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville) placed her shot in the lower middle of goal to beat the Heidelberg goalie.  Emma Diorio (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) got the played started with a through ball to Emma Egli (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) who had her shot deflected.  The deflection fell to Kronenbitter who tapped the ball into the goal from close range.   

The teams battled for the final 10 minutes of the half, but scored remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the intermission.  The Pioneers were out shot 11-4 in the half, and lost the corner kick battled 5-1.  

The Student Princes regained the lead in the 63rd minute of the match when Lause placed her shot in the lower left part of the goal off an assist from Audrey Kaufman.  Heidelberg added to its lead in the 82nd minute of the game when the combination Lause and Kaufman teamed up to make the score 3-1.  The Student Princes won the match 3-1.  

Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) played 72 minutes in net for Marietta she faced six shots on goal, and made four saves.

The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 13) when they host Capital, with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
