Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer falls to Capital

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team fell to Capital 2-0 on Wednesday (Oct. 13) evening on Marietta Field.  With the loss the Pioneers are now 1-9-1 overall and 0-4 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the win Capital is 5-6-1 overall and 4-0 in the OAC.

"Difficult to respond after an own goal early in the game.  Our women did well though to keep battling," said Head Coach Sean Kaighin.  "At the end of the day, you can't score if you do not create opportunities, and we are struggling to do so.  As always, we will look at the film, learn from our mistakes and keep growing."

Capital opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the match.  Grace Estes dribbled down the right side of the field and played a ball into the box, after the ball bounced in the box it ended up in the back of the net for a 1-0 Capital lead.  The match would remain 1-0 at the intermission.

Emma Egli (Homeworth, Ohio/West Branch) gave Marietta the best chance to score in the first half with a shot on goal, but goalie Lauren White made the save.

Capital added to its lead in the 79th minute of the match.  Faith Durbin was able to collect the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and placed her shot in the upper right corner of the goal.

The Pioneers created three chances to score in the second half all came within one minute of each other.  Taylor Sloan (Belpre, Ohio/Warren) notched a pair of shots on goal, and Danielle Pluszczynski (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) had the other shot in the second half for Marietta.   The Pioneers were unable to score, and fell 2-0.

Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) played all 90 minutes in goal for Marietta, she faced 26 shots, 10 of which were on goal, and made eight saves.

The Pioneers will return to the field Saturday (Oct. 16) when they host Wilmington, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
