PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — The Marietta College men's rowing team had a strong showing at the Head of the Schuylkill Saturday (Oct. 30). The Pioneer freshman 4+ crew won the gold medal finishing over seven seconds ahead of the second place boat.

"We acquitted ourselves nicely today, highlighted by a win in the Frosh Fours event, and a truly gutsy race in the Championship Eight," Marietta head coach Greg Myhr said. "Little has changed from a week ago. We still have work to do, but we are clawing or way forward and starting find some real speed.  If we can capitalize on the fall, 2022 could be a really exciting season for Marietta."

The freshman four crew posted a winning time of 13:29.310 to capture the gold medal in the 16-boat race. La Salle was second crossing in 13:37.004), followed by Rochester (13:54.106), Loyola (14:20.353) and Duke (14:32.061) in the top five.

Marietta entered four shells in the championship 4+ race and placed seventh, 13th, 17th and 22nd in the 34-boat race. Dartmouth crews swept the medals. Dartmouth B won with a time of 12:01.039). Dartmouth C (12:10.164) was second and Dartmouth D (12:20.889) took third.

Columbia (12:31.246) and Pennsylvania B (12:36.947) rounded out the top five, followed by Dartmouth A (12:38.164) and Marietta C (12:50. 935). Marietta B (13:03.777) was 13th, Marietta A (13:21.048) was 17th and Marietta D (13:38.742) was 22nd.

Dartmouth B took the gold medal in the club 8+ division with a time of 11:06.229. Dartmouth A (11:07.805) was second, followed by Temple (11:22.772), Drexel (11:26.458) and Temple B (11:32.011) in the top five. Marietta crossed in 12:10.383 to place 19th.

Dartmouth claimed the top two spots in the championship 8+ race. Dartmouth A posted a winning time of 10:26.872, while their B crew was second with a time of 10:37.806. Drexel (10:43.203) was third, followed by Pennsylvania (10:48.443) and Dartmouth C (10:48.456). The Pioneers placed 11th with a time of 11:13.721.

Marietta will race Columbia on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 11 a.m.
