Women’s Soccer drops OAC match at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HTS., Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was beaten 3-1 by John Carroll on Saturday (Oct. 23) afternoon.  With the loss the Pioneers are now 1-11-2 overall and 0-6-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and with the win the Blue Streaks improve to 7-9-1 overall and 2-5 in OAC action.

"We seemingly have moments of brilliance, and then moments of frantic play," said Head Coach Sean Kaighin.  "We are young and still gaining experience.  The future is bright with these women but we have got to continue to learn and press on."  

John Carroll opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match.  The Blue Streaks scored when Macey Malinky played her corner kick into the box and Brittany Dufalla placed her shot into the back of the net, to lead 1-0.  

Marietta was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 43rd minute of the match.  Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) got the play started with a through ball to Kayla Stischok (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson).  Stischok dribbled 20 yards through the defense, her first shot was saved by John Carroll goalie Danielle DelGuidice.  Stischok gathered the rebound and placed her second shot into the back of the net.

John Carroll regained the lead in the 47th minute of the match off of a corner kick.  Malinky notched her second assist of the match as her corner found the head of Gabriella Walter, who hit the upper left corner of the goal.  

The Blue Streaks added to their lead in the 77th minute of the match.  Grace Monnin took a free kick from just outside the box and, placed her shot into the upper left corner of the goal.  John Carroll, won the match 3-1.

Drew Ultican (Baltimore, Ohio/Pickerington North) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Pioneers, she faced 11 shots, six of which were on goal, and made three saves in the match.  

Marietta will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 27) when they host Muskingum, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
