MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's rowing team hosted Adrian College for a series of 6,000-meter races on the Muskingum River Saturday (Oct. 16). The Pioneers defeated the Bulldogs in the varsity 8+ and 4+ races.
The varsity 8+ race kicked off the morning session with Marietta's "A" crew posting the fastest time of the day. The Pioneers crossed the line in 18:37.6, 19 seconds faster than Adrian (18:56.0). Marietta "B" (19:05.2) finished third with Marietta "C" (20:24.2) placing fourth.
In the varsity 4+ race the Pioneers had the top two finishers. Marietta "B" posted the fastest time with a mark of 20:38.3, followed by Marietta "A" (20:46.7), Adrian "A" (21:16.9), Adrian "B" (22:09.9), Marietta "C" (22:03.1) and Adrian "C" (22:25.0).
A pair of Pioneer doubles dueled each other with the team of
John Saunders (Buffalo, N.Y./Olmsted) and
George Riffle (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) beating the team of
Brian Bonifas (Rocky River, Ohio) and
Christian Schulitz (Pittsford, N.Y.). Saunders and Riffle posted a time of 21:26.9, while Bonias and Schulitz finished in 25:19.8l
The afternoon concluded with a quartet of singles.
Edmund Lynch (Marietta, Ga./Walton) had the fastest time crossing the line in 24:35.4, followed by
Colby Pasour (Lincolnton, N.C./Highland) (25:18.4),
Evan Saribalas (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) (25:34.6) and Catherine Wadih (29:21.5).
Marietta is back on the water next weekend at the Head of the Charles in Boston, Massachusetts.
