MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's rowing team hosted Ohio State and Case Western Reserve Saturday (Oct. 28) for the Muskie Chase. The teams competed in a series of races including a 6,000-meter head race and three 500-meter sprints.
"We are pleased with today's results," Marietta had coach
Philip Schmehl said. "It was the JV's first race, and they demonstrated the improved team depth we thought we had. We now turn our attention to the Head of the Occoquan."
All three schools entered a varsity 8+ and a junior varsity 8+ in the head race. Marietta's varsity crew covered the 6,000-meters in 19:32.4 for the day's best time. Ohio State's varsity shell took second with a time of 20:22.7, followed by Marietta's junior varsity boat (20:28.6) less than six seconds slower.
Case Western's varsity shell (20:40.8) was fourth with their junior varsity boat (21:36.6) next and Ohio State's junior varsity (21:39.0) finishing last.

The junior varsity boat sat
Eli Egyed (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) at coxswain,
Cameron Short (Hilliard, Ohio/) at stroke,
Joe Tucker (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern),
Chris Metz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill),
John Saunders (Buffalo, N.Y./),
George Riffle (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma),
Josh Loudon (Streetsboro, Ohio/),
William Rafferty (Moorestown, N.J./), and
Samuel Rojas (Bronx, N.Y./) in the bow.
The three varsity crews faced off in three 500-meter sprints and the order of finish was the same in each with Marietta winning, Ohio State second and Case Western third.
In the junior varsity sprints, Marietta won the first race and Case Western took the second and third.
Marietta travels to Virginia next Saturday (Nov. 4) for the Head of the Occoquan.
