Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer earns 2-0 road win at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Marietta College scored once in each half to beat rival Muskingum University 2-0 Tuesday (Oct. 4) evening in an Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer showdown. The Pioneers are now 7-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while Muskingum slips to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

"We played very well for long stretches of time tonight," Marietta head coach Tracy Blasius said. "We executed our game plan and got a much needed OAC win."

Freshman McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) notched her fourth game-winning goal of the season when her shot deflected off the Muskie keeper and into the back of the net in the 14th minute. Senior Layne Archer (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo) picked up the assist. The goal was Dorr's fifth of the year.

Raeli Barnes (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 83rd minute to extend Marietta's lead t0 2-0. Barnes found herself one-on-one with the keeper and slipped her shot inside the far left post for the goal.

"Dorr and Barnes dominated up top," Blasius said. "We withstood some pressure in the second half but handled it well and earned another shutout."

Marietta's defense completely locked down the Muskie attack holding Muskingum without a shot on frame all night. Senior Cassie Wint (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and freshmen Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), Brittany Palm (Prosperity, Pa./McGuffey), Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and Meredith Snow (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes) made it an easy night for keeper Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange).

Tenney played all 90 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and did not need to make a save while posting her fifth clean sheet of the season. Liz Mitchell had seven saves in goal for the Muskies.

For the match, Marietta outshot the Muskies 19-12, including a 9-0 edge in shots on goal. Each team took five corner kicks.

Marietta returns home to host John Carroll University on Friday (Oct. 7) in a 4 p.m. match. Fans can follow all the Pioneer teams all year long at pioneers.marietta.edu. You can also follow the Pioneers on Facebook at facebook.com/MariettaCollege and @MariettaPioneer on Twitter and Instagram.
