Baseball takes one of two from Frostburg State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio – No. 23 ranked Marietta College split a non-conference doubleheader with Frostburg State University Wednesday (April 23) afternoon at Don Schaly Stadium. The Pioneers posted a 3-0 shutout in game one before dropping a 7-1 decision in the nitecap.

led off the home half of the seventh inning with an infield single. Josh Ungerbuehler (Cincinnati/Roger Bacon) pulled a single through the left side of the infield moving Hanahan all the way around to third. Another Frostburg wild pitch allowed Hanahan to score making it 3-0.

Senior Austin Poretz (6-2) took the loss. Poretz tossed 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on 10 hits. He walked one and struck out seven. Sophomore Kyle McCormack worked the last 2.0 innings and was charged with one run n three hits.

Ungerbuehler finished 4-for-4, while McCoy was 3-for-4 with the solo home run. Hanahan and Packanik each collected a pair of base hits.

Frostburg (24-11 overall) roughed up the Pioneers for six runs in the first two innings of game two and then cruised to a 7-1 win on the arm of senior Kenny Georgius.

The Bobcats plated four runs in the first inning and chased Marietta starter Mike Finlan (State College, Pa./State College) after just 0.1 of an inning. Finlan (2-3) allowed four runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. Four other Pioneers toed the rubber with Mike Fulton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and Zak Janus (Kent/Roosevelt) each working 2.0 shutout innings.

Georgius (6-1) had the Marietta hitters off balance all game long. He pitched 8.0 innings and allowed just one run on six hits. Georgius struck out seven and walked two. Nick Huff threw a perfect ninth inning to close out the game.

Hanahan was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the second game.
