Softball gets the broom out against Otterbein sweeping an OAC doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader from Otterbein University Tuesday (April 1) afternoon at Marietta Field. The Pioneers came from behind in game one to win 8-3 and then took the nitecap by the score of 6-4. Marietta improves to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the OAC.

Otterbein (9-8 overall, 2-4 OAC) jumped on the Pioneers for three quick runs in the first two innings. The Cardinals roughed up Pioneer starting pitcher

knocked in a run with an infield single in the second and Rachel Montgomery (Massillon/Perry) collected an RBI with a single through the left side of the infield in the third.

The Cardinals got within one, 4-3, in the fifth inning only to see Marietta plate a pair of runs in the sixth. Schlabach drove in the Pioneers' first run with an infield single. Marietta's final run scored on Otterbein's fifth error of the game. A solo home run in the top of the seventh accounted for the Cardinals' final run of the afternoon.

Schlabach (5-5) went the distance in the circle for the win. She scattered seven base hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Maggie McMahan (1-4) threw 5.0 innings in the losing effort. She gave up four runs on four hits with five walks and 5 strikeouts.

Six different Pioneers had one hit in the game. Curry scored twice and drove in a run, while Tarski, Schlabach and Montgomery each had an RBI.
