Baldwin Wallace sweeps OAC twinbill from Softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University swept an Ohio Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Marietta College Monday (March31) afternoon at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School. The Yellow Jackets took the first game 2-1 and then completed the sweep with an 8-3 win in game two.

Baldwin Wallace improves to 7-10 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. Marietta falls to 9-9 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

The Yellow Jackets took advantage of a Pioneer miscue in the bottom of the first inning to score an unearned run. The score remained 1-0 in favor of BW until Marietta evened the game with a run in the sixth.

With two outs first baseman Trinity Schlabach (Wooster/Waynedale) reached base on a walk. Natalie Bender (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) pinch ran for Schlabach and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Shortstop Kelsey Kallenborn (Marshallville/Smithville) followed with a single up the middle scoring Bender.

Baldwin Wallace center fielder Sydney Kimball put the Yellow Jackets back on top with a two-out solo home run over the leftfield fence in the home half of the sixth.

Tabitha Murray (2-4) won the pitcher's duel throwing 7.0 innings and scattering four base hits. She walked one and struck out five. Alexi O'Hair (4-4) took the loss allowing two runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.

BW scored six runs in the second inning of game two and cruised to the 8-3 win. A costly Pioneers error resulted in five unearned runs in the rally as the Yellow Jackets sent 10 hitters to the plate in the rally.

Marietta cut the lead in half with three runs in the fourth. Right fielder Brianna Finck (New Lexington/Crooksville) smacked a two-run double, while left fielder Cierra Bloom (Dennison/Claymont) delivered an RBI single. Baldwin Wallace added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth.

Samantha Dostall (2-2) started and worked 4.0 innings for the win. She allowed three runs on four hits and struck out five. Darcy Daniel and Erica Morgan worked 1.0 and 2.0 innings of shutout relief, respectively.

Schlabach (4-5) started in the circle for the Pioneers and was tagged with the loss. She pitched 4.0 innings and gave up eight runs, three earned, on seven hits. Courtney Kerwood (Nashport/Tri-Valley) tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.

Schlabach, Bloom and center fielder Hannah Tarski (Independence/Independence) each had two hits in the game for Marietta.
