Softball downs Geneva and falls to Defiance in Rebel Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Marietta College softball team once again split a pair of games Thursday (March 13) at the Rebel Spring Games. The Pioneers defeated Geneva College, 3-2, and fell to Defiance College by the score of 6-4. Marietta is 4-4 on the season.

Senior Hannah Tarski (Independence/Independence) ripped a two-run triple in the third inning to give Marietta a 3-1 lead against Geneva. Before Tarski's triple, first baseman Trinity Schlabach (Wooster/Waynedale) drove in Michelle Kelley (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) with the Pioneers first run of the inning.

Geneva took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and then scored an unearned run in the seventh to cut the Pioneer lead to one, 3-2.

Junior Alexis O'Hair (Maumee/Maumee) (4-1) went the distance in the circle for Marietta. She tossed 7.0 innings and gave up two runs, one earned on five hits. She walked one and struck out two.

In the nitecap, Defiance erupted for five runs in the fourth inning to come from behind and defeat the Pioneers 6-4.

Schlabach and Tarski each drove in runs in the first inning to give Marietta a 2-0 lead. The duo would strike again in the fifth inning knocking in a run each to get the Pioneers within two runs, 6-4.

Schlabach (1-3) started and took the loss. Schlabach pitched 3.0 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. O'Hair gave up one run on four hits in 4.0 innings of relief.

Second baseman Stephanie Zentz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) was 3-for-3 with a double for the Pioneers.

Marietta wraps up its southern trip with two games Friday (March 14). The Pioneers will play Illinois Wesleyan at 9:00 a.m. and Waynesburg University at 11:00 a.m. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at pioneers.marietta.edu.
