Box Score 2 WOOSTER, Ohio – The Marietta College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games at the College of Wooster Wednesday (April 3) afternoon. The Fighting Scots downed the Pioneers by the scores of 6-1 and 5-3.
Wooster (11-7 overall) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning of game one and never trailed. The Scots added two run sin the fourth and three more in the fifth building a 6-0 lead.
Marietta (13-7 overall) got on the board in the seventh inning. Senior shortstop
Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va./Ripley) reached on a one-out infield single, one of just four Pioneer hits. Following a fly out, designated hitter
Ali Keller (Wheelersburg/Notre Dame) singled to left. Sayre came all the way around to score when the left fielder misplayed the ball.
Jenn Horton (5-4) went the distance in the circle for Wooster to get the win. Horton allowed the one unearned run on four hits and struck out four with no walks.
Sophomore
Alexis O'Hair (Maumee/Maumee) (5-3) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work. Freshman
Trinity Schlabach (Wooster/Waynedale) threw the final 1.1 innings giving up one base hit.
Sayre, Keller, second baseman
Katie Swejk (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) and catcher
Ris McDaniel (Pickerington/North) each had a hit for the Pioneers.
Marietta jumped on top in game two with a couple of runs in the top of the first inning.
Sarah Mayo (Proctorville/Chesapeake) reached on a one-out walk and scored on a triple from McDaniel. McDaniel sored on the play when the Wooster second baseman misplayed the relay throw.
The lead was short lived as the Scots answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning off of freshman starter
Lauren Larrick (Leesburg/Fairfield Local). Two Pioneer errors in the inning resulted in three unearned runs.
Larrick (5-4) tossed 6.0 innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits. She walked one and struck out three.
Wooster added a run in the fourth inning when right fielder Kristyn Swanson doubled and then scored on a single from second baseman Skye Patterson.
First baseman
Rachel Montgomery (Massillon/Perry) led off the Pioneer fifth inning with a single to leftfield. Junior
Hannah Tarski (Independence/Independence) tripled into the right center gap cutting the deficit to 5-3.
Swejk followed with an infield single and stole second base putting the tying run in scoring position with one out. Swejk's stolen base was the 62nd of her career, which ties her with Kim Brown (1986-89) for the school record.
Wooster got out of the inning with a ground out to short and a fly out to leftfield.
Gina Pirolozzi (6-3) threw 7.0 innings to get the win. She allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits. Pirolozzi walked two and struck out five.
Montgomery was 2-for-3, while McDaniel and Tarski had triples and Sayre recorded a double.
