Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Marietta College softball team split on its final day at the Rebel Spring Game Friday (March 15) afternoon. The Pioneers lost to the Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) 4-0 and defeated Lake Forest College (Ill.) 4-2.
Marietta wraps up the Florida portion of its schedule with an 8-4 overall record.
Coast Guard scored two runs in the bottom of second inning and added two more in the fifth for the 4-0 victory.
Sophomore
Alexis O'Hair (Maumee/Maumee) (2-2) started in the circle for the Pioneers and was tagged with the loss. O'Hair went 5.0 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. She didn't walk a hitter and struck out one. Sophomore
Courtney Kerwood (Nashport/Tri-Valley) pitched the sixth for Marietta and allowed two hits.
Freshman Kristine Kahl (2-3) picked up the win for Coast Guard. Kahl pitched all 7.0 innings and scattered four base hits. She walked three and struck out four.
Katie Swejk (Tallmadge/Tallmadge),
Ris McDaniel (Pickerington/North),
Trayla Liles (Tollesboro, Ky./Lewis County) and
Ali Keller (Wheelersburg/Notre Dame) each had a hit for Marietta.
Against the Foresters of Lake Forest College, the Pioneers broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
McDaniel led off with a single and moved to third on a single from Liles. Freshman
Jayla Graves (Newark/Newark Catholic) doubled to center field scoring both McDaniel and Liles. Keller would eventually drive in Graves with an RBI-single to right field.
The Foresters battled back with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to get within one, 3-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lake Forest walked the bases loaded. Freshman
Kelsey Kallenborn (Marshallville/Smithville) stepped to the plate and delivered a sacrifice fly to center field scoring
Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va./Ripley) with an insurance run.
Freshman
Lauren Larrick (Leesburg/Fairfield Local) (3-2) retired Lake Forest in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Larrick went the distance in the circle allowing two runs on nine hits. She walked three and struck out two.
Jessi Werner started in the circle for the Foresters and threw 2.2 innings. She gave up one run on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Kristi Gandy (0-2) took the loss working 3.0 innings and allowing three runs on four hits with a walk.
Graves went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Pioneer offense.
