Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Marietta College softball team posted a pair of victories Monday (March 11) in the Rebel Spring Games. The Pioneers defeated Skidmore College (N.Y.) 8-0 in five innings and blanked Lakeland College (Wis.) 7-0. Marietta improves to 5-1 on the season.
It was the bottom of the Pioneers' batting order that did the most damage against Skidmore. Sophomore
Courtney Kerwood (Nashport/Tri-Valley), batting eighth, and junior
Michelle Kelley (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), batting ninth, each went 2-for-3 and accounted for four of Marietta's eight runs.
Sophomore
Alexis O'Hair (Maumee/Maumee) (1-0) went the distance in the circle to claim her first victory of the season. O'Hair allowed just one hit in the shutout. She walked three and struck out three.
The Pioneers scored five runs in the top of the third inning to take an 8-0 lead. Kerwood had an RBI double and two more Pioneers scored on wild pitches.
Junior Katie Sorochka (1-1) took the loss for Skidmore. She allowed eight runs, six earned, on six hits. Sorochka had control problems and walked seven Pioneer hitters while striking out just one.
In the second game of the day, the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the third and then broke the game open with a five-run fourth.
Sophomore third baseman
Sarah Mayo (Proctorville/Chesapeake) smashed a two-run double and Kerwood delivered a two-out, two-run single in Marietta's fourth inning rally. Mayo finished the game 3-for-4.
Freshman
Lauren Larrick (Leesburg/Fairfield Local) (1-1) evened her record with the complete-game shutout. Larrick allowed only two hits and had six strikeouts and a walk.
Freshman Melissa Noll (1-2) started for Lakeland in the circle and took the loss. Noll pitched 3.2 innings and surrendered seven runs, only three earned, on seven hits. She walked four and struck out three. Senior Erin Henk tossed the final 2.1 innings and allowed a hit with one walk and a strikeout.
Marietta takes the field for two more games on Tuesday (March 12). The Pioneers play Webster University (Mo.) at 9:00 a.m. and Illinois Wesleyan University at 11:00 a.m. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
