Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College softball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to Muskingum University Wednesday (April 11) afternoon. The Muskies won the first game 8-7 in nine innings and completed the sweep with an 8-2 win in the second game. [

The Pioneers fall to 16-12 overall and 4-6 in the OAC. Muskingum moves to 15-13 on the season and 4-4 in the league.
Muskingum scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning of game one to take a 6-2 lead. The Muskies loaded the bases with three singles setting the stage for Courtney Moyer. Moyer drove in two runs with a single up the middle. Ashley Price and Chelsea Kaunert each knocked in runs with a single in the inning.
Marietta responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 6-6. The Pioneers loaded the bases with one out. Right fielder
Kirstie Welch (Pickerington/North) scored on a wild pitch and then third baseman
Sarah Mayo (Proctorville/Chesapeake) plated another with a sac fly. Catcher Marissa McDaniel delivered the big blow with a two-run shot over the centerfield fence.
Moyer homered in the sixth to give Muskingum a 7-6 lead. The Pioneers entered the bottom of the seventh trailing by one run.

Hannah Tarski (Independence/Independence) led off the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by designated hitter
Chelsea Obrzut (Medina/Medina). Welch stepped to the plate and lined a single up the middle scoring Tarski with the tying run and forcing extra innings.
Neither team scored in the eighth inning. The Muskies used the long ball again in the ninth. Shortstop Apryl Patterson hit a solo home run to left field putting Muskingum ahead 8-7.
Rachel Bannister retired the Pioneers in order in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win. Bannister (2-1) pitched 5.1 innings in relief allowing one run on eight hits with three strikeouts. Marla Kay Conley started the game in the circle for the Muskies. Conley threw 3.2 innings and gave up six runs, two earned, on seven hits with a pair of walks.
Freshman Alexis O'Hair started for Marietta and pitched five innings. O'Hair allowed seven runs, all earned, on 14 hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Senior
Hazel Brogdon (Chugiak, Alaska/Chugiak) (1-2) got the loss throwing the final four innings and giving up just one run on three hits. Brogdon walked two.
Tarski and Welch each had three hits for the Pioneers. McDaniel was 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three runs batted in. Brogdon and
Katie Swejk (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) had two hits each.
Muskingum scored two runs in the third and fourth innings and added three more in the sixth en route to the 8-2 win in the six-inning game two, called because of darkness.
McDaniel drove in both of Marietta's runs in the game. She singled home Swejk in the first and then knocked in Swejk in the fifth with a sac fly.
Freshman
Emily Estrich (Sylvania/Southview) (5-6) took the loss. Estrich went six innings and gave up eight runs, all earned, on eight base hits. She walked six and had two strikeouts.
Ashley Gilbert (3-4) pitched six innings for the win. She surrendered two runs, one earned, on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Swejk went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while McDaniel was 2-for-2 with the pair of runs batted in.
Marietta travels to Heidelberg University Saturday (April 14) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
